EXT. ASTANA NUSA COMPOUND - NIGHT
Sari and Jaka navigate through the darkness, evading the night watchmen as they cautiously move toward their escape route. Sari speaks in a hushed tone.
SARI
(whispering)
This way, Jaka! We can make our way out!
Sari refers to a house with a roof adjacent to the outermost layer of the Astana Nusa compound, her intended path of escape. She explains to Jaka about this secret route her mother had shared with her. Sari had never used it before due to her physical limitations.
They climb up to the roof of the nearby house, and with a leap, they jump from the roof to the boundary wall of the palace. Sari almost slips, but Jaka swiftly grabs her hand, preventing a dangerous fall. They find themselves atop the stone wall adorned with intricate carvings.
SARI
(relieved)
Thank you, Jaka.
To descend from the five-meter-high wall, Jaka pulls out a hook-tipped mine he found in Lastika's room. After confirming its sturdiness, Sari goes down the rope first, followed by Jaka. Their movements are swift and precise, eluding any guards that may be watching.
Once they reach the ground outside the palace compound, Jaka unhooks the rope from the wall and swiftly rolls it up, securing it over his shoulder. It serves both as a climbing tool and a potential weapon.
Sari and Jaka run, but their presence doesn't go unnoticed by the sharp-eyed soldiers manning the guard towers.
SOLDIER
(pointing)
There they are! Someone is aiding the fugitives' escape! After them!
However, the fugitives swiftly disappear amidst the less populated buildings in downtown Danurah. The soldiers lose sight of their targets, leading to a chaotic search that involves invading people's homes.
Sari and Jaka continue their journey until they reach the Ogoh-Ogoh Slums, an area starkly contrasting the city center. Unpleasant odors fill the air and neglected garbage piles attract swarms of flies.
Jaka gestures toward the surroundings.
JAKA
(explaining)
Welcome to the Ogoh-Ogoh Slums. It may not seem like it, but this is a haven for us. No one would expect a pampered royal Princess like you to set foot in this village.
SARI
(assertive)
I'm not the typical Princess, Jaka. But for now, I'd rather catch my breath here than be pursued endlessly outside the city.
Jaka points in a specific direction.
JAKA
(pointing)
Well, this is my house.
Sari and Jaka enter a dilapidated shack adjacent to the one next to it. The walls are made of wooden planks and irregularly arranged tree branches. Jaka carefully holds the door to prevent it from falling off.
Once inside, they finally exhale a sigh of relief. However, Sari's worry resurfaces.
SARI
(concerned)
Are you sure the soldiers won't find us here?
JAKA
(reassuring)
Generally, a Princess avoids slums and dirty areas. That's why this place is the safest for us right now. The question is, where do we go from here? Where can we find your mother? Surely wherever she's gone, it's safer than the Ogoh-Ogoh Slums.
SARI
(realization)
Oh, yes! I almost forgot.
Sari takes out a letter she brought with her, placing it on the table. She begins reading it aloud, and Jaka listens attentively. The letter, written by Lastika, reveals important instructions and information about her whereabouts.
They read the letter repeatedly, committing its contents to memory. Aware of its significance, they decide to destroy it for their safety.
Jaka's eyes widen with astonishment.
JAKA
(amazed)
Your mother is a member of the Leyak, the most feared and sinister black magic witch society in Rainusa!
SARI
(astonished)
I-I had no idea it went that far.
JAKA
(explaining)
The Leyak, led by Rangda, possesses unimaginable powers. They've clashed with Barong, the Holy Lion of the Gods, multiple times. Both Rangda and Barong vanished after their last battle, causing Mount Idharma to erupt.
Sari is stunned, realizing the true nature of the Leyak. She had only thought of Rangda as a witch with grand ambitions, while the Leyak sought freedom rather than aligning with any particular faction. Now, she discovers her mother's connection to this feared society.
Jaka breaks the silence, presenting Sari with a choice.
JAKA
(earnest)
Instead of getting lost in your thoughts, consider your options. Do you still want to search for your mother, or do you wish to wander with me? Remember, I am a criminal, and you are a criminal's daughter. It's up to you, Sari.
Sari gazes back at Jaka, contemplating her decision. She questions her worth and the potential affection Jaka may have for her.
SARI
(resolute)
What do I want? It's not about what I have to do, but what I want to do. My dreams, my desires... I need to think about them carefully. The "what," "who," "why," and "where." Once I figure it out, I'll let you know. Time is of the essence.
They sit in the dimly lit shack, awaiting Sari's decision that will shape their future path.
FADE OUT.
