Beyond Rangkasbitung was written at the same time I was reading the Pulitzer-winning novel, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I couldn't help but to be blown away by how masterful she weaved tons of gorgeous "purple passages" into her book. Therefore, I tried to (amateurishly) mimic what she did, making Beyond Rangkasbitung the most complex English piece I've ever written.
Besides that, the story was mainly influenced by the works of Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Ponyo) which often depicts the non-humans as harmless and are not directly utilized as the source of conflicts.
